Yesterday I hosted a Survivors' Truths fundraiser/conversation at my house featuring Ernestine Greaves who was seven years old when a campaign of ethnic cleansing started against her mother's tribe during the Liberian civil war. She and her father were eventually taken into custody and brutally beaten, her father never recovered and died a short time later. She told a story of how connection with her father carried her through very difficult times in refugee camps and constant displacement. She eventually finished school, and capitalized on every opportunity to learn, and now works as a social worker helping women and girls who have experienced gender-based violence. It was a wonderful experience to hear Ernestine's story and witness her hopes for the future of her country and family. Thanks to all who helped put it together and supported.
